Explore the rich guitar traditions of Latin America in a small ensemble of four guitarists. Inspired by Uruguayan guitar quartets such as Cuarteto Zitarrosa and Cuarteto Ricacosa, we work with the guitar as both a rhythmic, harmonic and melodic instrument.
The repertoire draws on music from across the continent, including Brazilian Baião and Xote, Tango, Milonga, Candombe and Zamba from the Southern Cone, as well as Paraguayan Guarania and Polka.
Each guitarist has a distinct role in the ensemble – from melody and solo playing to harmonies, counter-melodies, rhythmic accompaniment and bass lines. Together we work on groove, timing, dynamics and the close interaction that makes a guitar quartet come alive.
The course is for intermediate to advanced guitarists with solid technique and a good knowledge of the fretboard. You should be comfortable reading either tablature or standard notation. Previous experience with Latin American music is not required.
Please bring a nylon-string acoustic guitar.
One lesson is 55 minuter, including a 10 minute break. This class is 2,5 lessons per session.
